Greater China

Currently, we see lots of Chinese visiting Japan and spending money a lot.
It gives us a misperception of Chinese power.

In fact, all of the Chinese are not from Chinese mainland.
They are combination of mainland Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong and Singaporean.
The 4 countries form a federation, what is called "Greater China".
We need to understand the Greater China for success in Asian business.

We tend to see the mainland China only as a Chinese economy but
actual force of it comes from the network of Greater China countries.
For example, a consumer product maker failed to establish brand well in Japan,
however, they recovered by taking the strategy to set new brand in the key cities
in the Greater China network.

Understanding the network economy will be crucial for business strategy.

Shanghai

I visitted a Japanese manufacturing company in Shanghai, China last week.

When I arrived at the Shanghai airport, all passangers were not allowed to get out of the plane.

We were required to stay in the plane for more than an hour until the influenza test is done for all passengers. It was a kind of scaring experience. Japanese goverment would not take that action.

My client kindly took me to the Mount Huangshan which is located in the west of Shanghai.
I was so impressed with its uncanny beauty of scenery just before the sunrise.
